Developing A Pre-Shot Routine

Developing A Pre-Shot Routine

Many high handicap golfers would benefit from developing a pre-shot routine. While many golfers approach every shot they take the same way they lack what is formally recognized as a true pre-shot routine. What you do before you actually hit the ball is as much mental as it is physical to your golf game. Following a few of the tips below will enable you to develop a sound pre-shot routine that will benefit your game.

1) Relax!

2) Stand behind the ball, select a target to hit to and visualize the path you would like to ball to take.

3) Address the ball keeping your feet together and place the clubhead behind the ball in line with your target.

4) Take your normal stance by repositioning your feet.

5) Look at your target and visualize the shot once again.

6) Waggle the club concentrating on relaxing your arms, body and mind.

7) One last look at target line, exhale to relax and pull the trigger.

One key take away here aside from visualizing your target line and flight path of the ball is to relax. Tension KILLS the golf swing! Following your pre-shot routine before every shot you take either on the practice range or during a round will help make this second nature. Before long this will be another tool you can use to shave down your handicap. Remeber, golf is supposed to be fun. Enjoy your next round.
